The demonstration projects carried out so far in the energy sector have, in many cases, not achieved the expected results. The possibility of using this technology, however, is emerging in other areas of industry, which is also being considered by domestic entrepreneurs. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Natural carbon capture is carried out by green plants, ocean water and peatlands, among others, but this is a relatively slow process. In order to permanently remove excess CO2 from the atmosphere or reduce its emissions at source, sequestration &#8211; i.e. capture and storage &#8211; is required.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-238475 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ngllegal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NGL-Insights-450-x-281-3-e1707826763416-187x300.jpg?resize=258%2C414&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"258\" height=\"414\" \/>The two main mechanisms involved in the elimination of CO2 are most commonly distinguished, i.e. CDR (<i>Carbon Dioxide Removal<\/i>) and CCS (<i>Carbon Capture and Storage<\/i>). In the case of CDR, CO2 is captured from the atmosphere, while in the case of CCS technology, CO2 is captured and stored at the point at which it is generated.<\/p>\n<p>Due to geological conditions, sequestration is most often carried out by trapping CO2 in the pore spaces of minerals and rocks or in specially prepared underground reservoirs. More common today is the storage of carbon dioxide in special reservoirs, defined as sedimentary rocks, underground saline layers or depleted coal deposits. We would like to remind you that 30 June 2023 is the deadline for the next settlement of the obligation to achieve energy savings by obliged entities. The fulfilment of the obligation for a given year takes place by 30 June of the third year following the year to which the obligation relates.<\/strong><\/p><p>The Energy Efficiency Act imposes the obligation to achieve energy savings or introduce energy efficiency improvement measures on a whole range of entities, including:<\/p><ol><li>energy enterprises carrying out economic activity in the field of generation or trade of electricity, heat or natural gas and selling electricity, heat or natural gas to end users connected to the grid in the territory of Poland,<\/li><li>certain final consumers,<\/li><li>commodity brokers in respect of transactions on a commodity exchange,<\/li><li>fuel entities placing liquid fuels on the market.<\/li><\/ol><p>The obligation may be fulfilled by:<\/p><ol><li>implementing energy efficiency improvement projects for the final consumer,<\/li><li>obtaining an energy efficiency certificate and submitting it to the President of the ERO for redemption,<\/li><li>payment of a substitute fee by the obliged entity.<\/li><\/ol><p>Regarding the substitute fee, it is possible to fulfil the obligation only up to a statutorily specified amount (for a given calendar year).
